Constructions and the Analytic Field questions the relationship
between psychoanalysis, history and literature. Does the analyst
help the analysand construct a narrative, or is their task more of
a historical reconstruction?
In seeking to answer this question, Domenico Chianese examines
Freud's writing, beginning with 'Constructions in Analysis' and
ending in 'Moses and Monotheism', as well as the impressions of
analytic method reflected in contemporary writers such as Thomas
Mann, and historical writings from both sides of the Atlantic.
Drawing on vivid and persuasive clinical examples, he argues that
psychoanalysis creates a 'scenic space' between analysand and
analyst, a theatrical space wherein the cast of the patient's
interior world enter and exit from the scene.
Drawing on the rich Italian psychoanalytic tradition, this
original approach to the analytic field will be of interest to
psychoanalysts, historians and literary experts.
Jim Carrey stars in this family comedy based on the 1930s
children's novel by Richard and Florence Atwater. Tom Popper
(Carrey) is a business executive who has become disillusioned with
the daily grind. But when he unexpectedly inherits six penguins,
his life is transformed into a series of madcap adventures as he
finally gets the excuse to indulge his childhood hankering for
polar exploration. Carla Gugino, Madeline Carroll and Angela
Lansbury co-star.
Crystallization is an important technique for separation and
purification of substances as well as for product design in
chemical, pharmaceutical and biotechnological process industries.
This ready reference and handbook draws on research work and
industrial practice of a large group of experts in the various
areas of industrial crystallization processes, capturing the
essence of current trends, the markets, design tools and
technologies in this key field. Along the way, it outlines trouble
free production, provides laboratory controls, analyses case
studies and discusses new challenges.First the instrumentation and
techniques used to measure the crystal size distribution, the
nucleation and solubility points, and the chemical composition of
the solid and liquid phase are outlined. Then the main techniques
adopted to control industrial crystallizers, starting from
fundamental approaches to the most advanced ones, including the
multivariable predictive control are described. An overview of the
main crystallizer types is given with details of the main control
schemes adopted in industry as well as the more suitable sensors
and actuators.
Italian Americans on Screen: Challenging the Past, Re-Theorizing
the Future reconsiders Robert Casillo's definition of
Italian-American cinema as "appl[ying] to works by Italian-American
directors who treat Italian-American subjects" to expand this
classification. Contributors situate Italian-American cinema and
media within the contemporary and intersectional debates about
ethnic identity, including race, class, gender, and sexuality
studies. This book links past scholarship to theoretical
underpinnings with new hermeneutical approaches in television and
film to establish new interpretations concerning Italian Americans
on screen. Scholars of film studies, media studies, cultural
studies, and sociology will find this book particularly useful.
